YogaBuddies Bedtime Stories DVD Review

Extracted From The Mind of Shasta / Label(s):
When I first heard about YogaBuddies Bedtime Stories, I wanted to try it! I have 3 very energetic boys and bedtime is probably my least favorite part of the day because they just do not want to sleep. They might miss something! It is such a struggle to get them all settled down and quiet and relaxed. We do bedtimes stories every night, same routine, etc. and it still doesn't really help much. Since my kids are TV bugs and seem semi interested when I exercise once a month I thought they might be into this!

The YogaBuddies Bedtime Stories DVD includes three bedtime stories incorporating 42 calming yoga poses to help kids unwind, stretch and relax as they prepare for a night of restful sleep.

Your child follows along as five real kids demonstrate the calming yoga poses while listening to bedtime stories read by YogaBuddies founder, Danay DiVirgilio. YogaBuddies is aimed at children ages 4 and up.

Here is a preview of the DVD:

You can even buy the Yoga Buddies Logo T-shirt, like the kids wear in the video, on their website! They also have a fun blog where they post a "yoga pose of the month" and include a picture and explanation of how to do it, as well as other things!

I introduced this DVD to my sons at bedtime and I was surprised that it actually settled them down and kept their attention. I sat down on the floor with them to listen and even participate in some of the poses. My 7 year old and 4 year old started doing the poses along with the children pretty quickly, they liked that most of the poses have animal names, I think that makes it fun for them! My 2 year old even tried to do the poses and it definitely calms them all, and myself. It's very relaxing. We'll be incorporating this into our bedtime routine, at least on the more energetic nights!!

Buy it!

You can buy this great DVD for your kids on their website for only $14.99. That truly is a great deal for this DVD.

Thank you to YogaBuddies for providing this DVD for review.

52 Week Challenge: 28 of 52...a new kitty!

Forever In Blue Jeans

I only have one this week, and it was taken last night. Aside from my giveaways, I know I haven't been a very exciting blogger lately. I've been dealing with a lot of health issues the past few weeks and now that we've ruled out super serious things through blood work, I'm being referred to a rheumatoid specialist.. so, that might not be great, but it's not the worst either. I'm doing a lot better {mentally} to finally have an idea of what's going on. So as long as I'm not feeling too awful, I hope to be back at it now!

We did have a wonderful 4th of July, I was feeling pretty good and it was just such a nice time with family. Unfortunately, I was the one taking all of the pictures so I didn't get any with me and my boys.

But..we did bring home a new "pet member" of our family on the 4th! To leave out a lot of extended family issues I won't get in to on here {more stress?}, this kitty needed a new home. Bike Boy was against it, but he's a big softy when it comes to cats, and he gave in when I put the cat in our car. His name is Monster and although it seems mean to call him that, he knows it so I guess we're sticking with it. Although I find myself calling him Buddy all the time so maybe that will stick. We have one inside cat, and she's strictly inside {as he will be}, we didn't need another cat, but he needed a home, and he's already neutered. He's young, only a year or two old, same as our kitty. He's FAT! Makes our cat look small! Our cat, Dixie, wasn't fond of him at all, and he was scared to death at first {camped under the kitchen table for a whole day}, but he's really warmed up and loves us now and him and Dixie are slowly starting to tolerate each other in the same room now.

So anyway, all of that blah blah blah above, leads to this picture. Me, my two oldest boys, and our new kitty!

I Heart Faces: Patriotic Edition! My 4th of July!

Extracted From The Mind of Shasta / Label(s): , , , , , ,

It's been a long while since I've done I Heart Faces, and this week was the perfect time to get back in to doing it! This week, the theme is “My Story In Photos: The Patriotic Edition”!

Our 4th of July was spent at my Uncle's house, with lots of family and fun! We had a really good turnout and it was so nice to see all of my family. We had tons of great food and great fireworks! We didn't even leave until 11 pm! ...and we came home with a new cat, but that's a whole other blog post!

Here is my 4th, in Photos {of the kids, I thought I would be kind and let out all of the pictures I got of adults with sparklers!!}

An evening full of running and playing!

and finally, Sparklers, after all those hours of counting down 'till dark.

The Wonder of it all

There's nothing quite like gazing up at the fireworks, in all their beauty, and remembering back to when I did this as a child, in this very same place. The feeling of freedom, the feeling of joy. Then seeing my children doing the very same thing, waving their sparklers and starring up at the sky with smiles on their faces and wonder in their eyes, creating memories that they will look back on someday...

and they will.

If Your Kid Eats This Book, Everything Will Still Be Okay: Book Review & Giveaway!

About the book:

If Your Kid Eats This Book, Everything Will Still Be Okay: How to Know If Your Child's Injury or Illness Is Really an Emergency

As an Emergency Room pediatrician, Dr. Lara Zibners has seen it all. She's cared for a portion of the 25 million children in the U.S. who are taken to the ER each year-and she knows that more than 50% of these visits may be unnecessary. IF YOUR KID EATS THIS BOOK, EVERYTHING WILL STILL BE OKAY shows parents when they may need to take action, and when they might be able to just go back to bed and call their doctor in the morning.
Dr. Zibners covers every part of the body and offers sound advice (for example, did you know that oil is the best remedy for dissolving superglue between body parts?), all while maintaining a lively and often hilarious tone. To the question, "What if she chokes on her vomit?" Zibners answers, "A healthy child will not choke on her own vomit, unless she is drunk or high on Grandma's sleeping pills."

Finally, no more frantic late-night searches through the "why to buy,""how to diaper," or "what to feed him" sections found in other childcare books to find out if little Franny needs to go to the ER. This book focuses on the truly important questions, like how to keep her from electrocuting herself in the first place. Not every child has a pediatrician with specialized emergency room experience living in her home. But this book just might be the next best thing.

What I thought:

The first thing I'm going to say is, I wish I had this book when I first became a mom! This is a must have for new parents! There's plenty, and I mean plenty of information in the book that is very useful to me today, as a mom of 3. I know I'll be referring to it for years to come. But there were also so many things in it about newborns, that I thought, wow, I really could have used this years ago! It is packed full of so much information, you can tell that Dr. Zibner really knows her stuff! Not only is it full of information, but it's hilarious to read! Dr. Zibner tells you like it is, and makes it so fun to read along! The humor in this book makes it so easy to read though everything and you learn a great deal while doing it.

There are 15 chapters in this book, with titles such as Ten Fingers...Eleven Toes? A Guide to the Newborn's Body, Behaviors, and Symptoms; The Noggin and Nervous System; The Guts; The Plumbing; You Give Me Fever!; and Mama, Owie! Minor Bumps, Bruises, Burns, and Wounds; just to name some. Each chapter is listed in the front of the book, under each is listed all of the issues that go in to that catergory. So if your child gets hurt or sick, you can just grab the book and quickly find the information on the part you are looking for. This really is a great book, with so much information! I'm really thinking that they should send each new mom home from the hospital with a copy of this book! Then you're set for the next 18 years!

Accent Furniture Direct Tiny Town Rug Review!

Extracted From The Mind of Shasta / Label(s): ,
I was recently asked to review a Tiny Town Rug Tile from Accent Furniture Direct. Accent Furniture Direct has an awesome selection of rugs for children, as well as lots of other furniture and home decor! Their sister site, Living Rooms Direct, also offers this rug as well as tons of other living room furniture. If you're needing furniture, rugs or home decor, both sites have very nice things!

This was probably my son's most favorite thing to review so far! They were all extremely excited when I pulled this out of the box! They quickly decided on a spot for it and had their cars and trains ready to go in no time! That was one of their favorite things about this rug, the train tracks on it! We've seen many other car rugs, but they just had roads on them. My boys love that this has both roads and train tracks so they can use both their cars and trains. It provides even more opportunity to use their imaginations!

I can see that many hours will be spent playing with this rug. Not only is it fun to play with and super cute, but it's really sturdy and you can tell it will hold up really well over the years. We can also add on to it. The rug tiles fit together, one road runs into the other so you can do your child's whole floor with Tiny Town Rug Tile!

A big thank you to Accent Furniture Direct for providing this rug for review!
